I currently have two options right now when it comes to my filmmaking career. I can either...

    A. Go to this film school in Florida. I get profesional training and i will more than likely get a job as a P.A. after graduation. It may be years before I even touch a camera. Or I could...

    B. Take this script I've been working, raise some money, and shoot it myself with no training. Take it to film festivals and try and get it picked up. I could get instant fame or instant nothing.

    What would you do?

P.S. I'm probably going to go to school since my parents are riding my ass to go.

You can get a job as a PA without going to film school. I know thats not what you want and it surely is not what you want to settle for after school. I would suggest lighting, gripping and ADing after school. Of course being a PA is an eyeopeniong experience. I did it once and realized I never wanted to do it again, but I feel that way about being an AD to. Try working as a grip on local indie projects and music videos and see hwre that takes you. You can do this before during or after school.

Go to film school. A lot of good and bad talk is said about them. I went to Brighton Film School and that was a PILE OF CRAP, HOWEVER, you may never get the chance again, and instant money & fame is not everything. If you are going to be famous someday - then you will be famous some day (sooner or later it dont matter). Yes, I say, go to school, it will be a good laugh, and you will learn something, whatever it be, it will be something. Have fun with your life first whilst you dont HAVE to earn money - then do your film, it will still be there later. YOU LUCKY THING. Pryce

Yeah i'm starting film school ina couple of weeks. I say do it wolfy...you never know who you might meet...plenty of time to "work" when you're old and decrepit (well, cynical anyway)

Why can't you do both? Go to school for a while, learn a little something, make some friends who can help with the project. By the time summer after your freshman year rolls around you could have a nice revised draft of your screenplay, most of a crew, and some knowledge as to how to do it.

So I guess, go to school, but make your own films any chance you get. That's my current plan at least.

    go to school.

I thought they want you to make stuff - and youve got a project already ( double bouble )

worst case - you'll learn a shed load of stuff. most of it you'll never need ( like algebra ) but are better prepaired to get on with it.

best case, you make your university short, get picked up from sundance and never have a proper job again
